Comic Strips: The Window

ComicStrips

The April newsletter is ready and with it the latest instalment of, The Craziest Things along with it.   Many of the comics are based around this generations love or dare I say reliance on technology. Many times I have seen the students look almost lost when I tell them that have to do something without using technology. Even the simplest task is too much for them.

There have been times I have given a task of cooking muffins to grade eights and they cannot even turn on the stove. Maybe it is because they are not allowed at home but these students are grade 8s, 13 – 14 years old. The same is with students looking for information. Many want to look on a computer, an app or to ask an adult instead of looking in a book and doing proper research.
I have seen many students ask me what the weather is like outside and I would say look outside a window. Some understand but others say ‘I can’t tell?’ I then understand that they want specific information about temperature to know what to wear. I sometimes say use your best judgement and what do you think is best.
Yet I would imagine they are a product of the world around use. We are inundated with information and it is hard to not have all the information to make the best decision possible. Is the development of common sense a lost art or simply a product of modern society?   I guess that’s a discussion for a later date.

In the mean time, I hope you enjoy the latest instalment of, The Craziest Things; The Window.
