Point Of View: Beauty In The Midst Of A Disaster

POV

Today in Toronto, I woke up to a wondrous sight.  Last night we had an ice storm that stretched across the province.  Outside my home everything was covered in a thick layer of ice.

After breakfast I went outside to inspect the area for any damage but I took my camera with me.  Even from inside I could see that this might be a disaster but there is still beauty to behold.  I wanted to take a few photos to help inspire me and what better inspiration than nature itself.  Many see wonders in waterfalls, clouds, trees and even dew on a spider web, but what I saw was nature frozen in time be the ice encasing it.

I did eventually salt the area and thankfully no one in the area was hurt but there was some damage to our neighbor’s car with the falling ice.  But nothing that cannot be fixed.

Below are a few of the photos I took of the Ice Storm in Toronto.  I challenge you all to not see the sheer beauty of this event.  To see how we are all affected by nature’s marvelous creations.  The simplest form of ice forming around a branch, or a drop falling from an ornament, frozen in time.   What wonders nature has given us right out side my door.

 Enjoy and be amazed!

Do you still have power? We’re good but so many people including Liz and her family are sitting in the dark.

Hi Yes we have power. We’ve been lucky. I drove down to Sherway Gardens and they have it but around Dundas and 427 to Dundas and Runnymede there is no power. My Uncle and Aunts live around this strip and they have been without power for +12 hours.

It looks amazing but I can imagine the damage snow and ice inflicts!

    • Paul Gauchi says:

Yes. It was amazing to witness and I am in the city. Outside the city my friends showed me pictures of branches and plants coated in 30 – 40 mm of ice. That is when the real damage can occur.
