Friday Two Cents: Inspiration In My Home Town III

 twoCentsOldNew

They say things happen in 3’s, well I had another inspirational outing in my home town of Toronto.  This time I was fortunate to go to the Art Gallery of Ontario, AGO and take in the The Great Upheaval: Masterpieces from the Guggenheim Collection, 1910-1918 exhibit.  A wonderful collection of artwork from the Guggenheim in New York

These magnificent pieces of art came out of some ‘Great Upheavals’ at the beginning of the 20th century.  Things such as technological innovations, socialism uprisings, and of course the Great War.  These events where part of the back drop that these artist took their inspiration from. Visionary, is not too strong a word to describe geniuses such as Constantin Brancusi, Marc Chagall, Marcel Duchamp, Vasily Kandinsky, Fernand Leger, Franz Marc, Henri Matisse, Amedeo Modigliani, Piet Mondrian and Pablo Picasso to name only a few.  Within the exhibit you see masterpieces by these artist during the cubist era and other wonderful modern art that is  a pièce de résistance for the mind and soul.

To say that I left the AGO inspired would be an understatement.  I took in those pieces of art and felt invigorated and stimulated.  I am no master such as these lofty artists, but I know what I like and what makes me happy.  For creation and imagination are gifts that are within all of us and a famous person who lived in this time once said;

“The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination.” Albert Einstein.

Words I truly believe.
