Friday Two Cents: Inspiration In My Home Town

This past week I did something I have not done in a very long time.  I played tourist in my hometown of Toronto.  More specifically I went to an old place I haven’t in a very long time, Casa Loma

Begun in 1911, Casa Loma was the vision of a millionaire businessman that wanted to bring a bit of his English heritage to the city of Toronto.  Therefore he decided to build his home in Toronto that would reflect that thought.  He basically took the phrase “a man’s home is his castle” literally.  It took three years and at the time 3.5 million to build but the results are amazing.  It was and is a monument to it’s owner, Sir Henry Pellatt and surpassed any private home-built in North America.

The last time I went to Casa Loma was in 1995 for a function and tour.  Yet it has not lost it’s grandeur or magnificence, in fact it has gotten greater.  I loved the experience and it has inspired me to create.  I made it a point to bring my camera to capture a few images and I am so glad that I did.  Looking at a few photos has inspired me to write and draw new stories and enhance old ones.

I cannot do Casa Loma justice with a few words or pictures, but if you are in the Toronto area I strongly recommend you pay this wonderful landmark as visit.  Just walking the halls of this hundred-year-old castle has inspired me and gotten my creative juices flowing.  Perhaps it can do the same for you.
