Friday Two Cents: I Am Number One And I Like Being Me.

 twoCentsOldNew

This week I was playing with my niece and at the time I was counting blocks with her.  She is 17 months but children are never to young for adults to start at least sounding out things with them.  When I was talking and counting with her I was thinking about the numbers themselves and what does it mean to be the number.

I am currently taking statistical analysis as part of my university compulsory courses and I have numbers on the brain.  Or else I am a bit bored or tired of the numbers. Therefore I started thinking what would it feel like to be a number.  I must have been bored.

Then my thoughts went to the number 1 and I came up with this little blurb that if the number one could talk, what would it say.

Here’s what I think the number one might be thinking.

One

It’s like the how the song goes, “One is the loneliest number”.  I’m not like the other numbers; I’m always by myself.  Two has at lest one other with them, they are never alone. But me, I’m always alone.  It sucks being One.

There is no one to play games with.  Two can play chess, checkers or cards and Four can play cribbage or bridge, what can I play, solitaire.  Even tennis you need someone else to play with.  All I can play is golf, Ooooo that’s exciting.  Zzzzzzzzzzz!

Geez, even if I go out to eat at a restaurant, when I say table for one they look at me with a quiet pity.  They’re thinking, “Too bad, he is such a nice number.  If only he had someone else with him.” Then I sit there reading, working on my tablet or doing something else because I have no one to talk to. Sigh.

But I guess it’s not all bad.  If I want to watch a movie I like, I don’t have to ask what the others want to see.  Imagine what 8, 9 or 10 have to go through to go out to a movie.   Or if I want to go somewhere I don’t have to ask permission or get approval like 2 or 3.

Besides, if I get a piece of chocolate, a nice bottle of wine or I won the jackpot in the lottery, I don’t have to share.  Think about winning a million dollars and you are 1,000,000.  Kind of diminishes the victory don’t you think.  I don’t mind sharing but sometimes it’s nice not having to share, to be greedy once in a while.  He, He, He.

I guess being One isn’t all that bad, it just depends on how you look at it.

Hmm, I guess I am Number One, and I like being me.
