Comic Strips: Kids Today

A recurring theme these days is that many children are so plugged-in, that they do not know how to be a kid.  This is evident with the children at my school.  Yes they do like reading and playing games, however you place anything electronic in front of them and then you have their attention.

The idea for this comic centres on this notion.  This is not only an idea for a comic strip but it happens all the time with the children.  When I take the children outside, many just want to sit out or read or want to bring out an iPod or some other device.  The idea of running around and playing a game is like telling them they have to eat their vegetables or they have to do their math homework.

Even when I introduced a baseball house league to the children, many said, “Do I have to play?” Like playing baseball is painful beyond belief, right?  In the immortal words of Foghorn Leghorn, “There’s somethin’, I say there’s somethin’ kinda Yeeeeeeeeee, about a kid that’s never played baseball.”

So, to all you parents out there, who wonder if their child is the only one that does not like doing things without electronics, this one’s for you.
