Friday Two Cents: New Experiences

twoCentsOldNew

This week there has been a great many topics to talk about.  The teachers’ almost strike, the NHL contract resolution, political blunders by all levels of government and so on.  I was thinking about talking about any one of these topics but I stopped myself.  I just could not talk about these depressing topics because quite honestly, I’m sick of them all.

Out of this whole week there was one thing that got my blood pumping and made me feel ecstatic for the first time in a while.  On Thursday I attended my first class in Classical mythology at the university.

I have loved mythology since I first read about it when I was an adolescent.  I have a myriad of books on the subject, from Classical to Norse to Celtic.  They all fascinate me and inspire me to create, and dream of dreams, I would dare not dream.

Now you might be thinking, ‘Big Deal.’  You took a class on some stories that were told 5000 years ago, that have no meaning or relevance today.  It isn’t the subject matter that I want to talk about, it’s the feeling of joy of experiencing something new.

I sat in class that day  and all I could do is remember what my grandfather once said. “You are never to old to stop learning.”  This course is a symbol of why I decided to go back to school.  I wanted to experience new and wonderful things.

Yes, I want to upgrade to a degree to go to teachers’ college but the thirst for knowledge, the goal of always wanting to improve myself, is something I have always strived for.   That is why I went back to school, why I draw, paint, play music and even write this blog.  That uncontrollable craving for more new experiences continues to inspire me.

In a world where there is so much strife and conflict, hopefully one persons’ desire for inspiration in a new experience, might inspire someone else to seek out their own new experience.

Seek out those experiences and let them inspire you to new and wonderful things.
