Friday two cents: Top Five Enjoyable Moments of 2012

twocents

At this time of year there is a host of top ‘whatever’ lists of the past year and if you look closely most of them focus on the negative aspects of what happened around the world.  Well I am tired of all this negative news and doom and gloom, so I came up with my own top five enjoyable moments in 2012.  Some of it has a distinctively Canadian or Toronto flare but I think most of you can relate.

 5. Stratford Festival “Specifically the performance of Pirate of Penzance”

In a world of reality shows and big budget movies there is something to be said about watching a live musical on stag.  The Stratford Festival in Ontario is one place where you can see the magic of imagination brought to life on the stag every night.  I was fortunate to catch the performance of “The Pirates of Penzance”.  From start to finish I was swept away to a land of pirates, Victorian life and major Generals. There are shows and plays being performed everywhere. Sometimes it is nice to just enjoyed the moment and forget about the worlds’ and your problems

4. Queen’s Jubilee

If you love her or hate her you have to admit it is so rare to find a political leader that has influenced the world the way she has.  So why not celebrate her 60 years.

 3. UEFA Euro Cup and the Summer Olympics

It is nice to see athletes compete for national and personal pride instead of their wallets.  With both the soccer and Olympic athletes, you can see the drive and determination in their faces as they compete to be the best and the tears of joy when they reach that moment.

 2.  The Mayan calendar predicting the end of the world, NOT!

Following in the footsteps of other predictions of doom and gloom (e.g. The year 2000 Y2K scare), the world did not end on December 21st, 2012.  Opps, I guess we all have to pay those credit card bills coming next month because the world did not end after all.  Crap!  Why did I buy that extra-large waffle maker?

 1.  The birth of my Niece, Life goes on.

You might think that I am a bit biases, but hear me out.  Everyday the miracle of life is happening.  Flowers bloom, trees bud and people are being born every second.  The birth of my niece is a symbol that no matter what problems are occurring in the world or in your own life; the miracle of life is the most precious gift.  Enjoy every moment.

Have a wonderful New Year and all the best for 2013.
